 Dr Sandip Shah,
MD Medical Oncologist & Hematologist
Another leading name in oncology, Dr Shah began his practice in 1986. He is a consultant medical oncologist and hematologist and is also affiliated to the Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute (GCRI), Ahmedabad as an associate professor of medical oncology and in-charge of bone marrow transplantation unit. He is also attached to the Rajasthan Hospital, Jivraj Hospital and is on the panel of ONGC. He is an ex-president of the Association of Physicians of Ahmedabad.
He has trained in hematology and medical oncology from reputed institutions such as GCRI, Tata Memorial Hospital & KEM Hospital Mumbai. He has also taken training in bone marrow transplantation at GCRI.
Dr Shah has been instrumental in setting up of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at GCRI and so far 60 autologus and 22 allogenic transplants have been carried out under his guidance in Gujarat.
His academic achievements include having over 10 articles published in national and international journals. He has also presented papers and delivered lectures at several national and international conferences. He has been the principal investigator in more than six national and multinational clinical research trials. He has also written a chapter on 'Refractory Hodgkin's disease' for reference books such as 'Hematology Today' and 'Epidemiology of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia'.
Ever so dynamic, Dr Shah twice organised national conferences at GCRI - on bone marrow transplantation in February 2007 and 'PEDI-CON' on Pediatric Hemato-oncology in 2002. His main areas of interest are hematological malignancies and bone marrow transplantation. He has treated more than 100 cases of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
His future plan is to start Allogenic Bone Marrow Transplant in private set up.
