He is one of the most dynamic oncologists in India with vast experience in oncology.

He completed MD in 1991 and DM (Oncology) in 1993 from GCRI, Ahmedabad, India. Subsequent to that he was a faculty in Medical Oncology at Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute – a Regional Cancer Center in Ahmedabad from 1993 - 1998.

He started Medical Oncology practice since 1999.

One of the Founder Directors of Hemato-Oncology Clinic, Vedanta Ahmedabad from 2003 till date

One of the Founder directors of Vibgyor Scientific Research Pvt. Ltd from 2006 to 2012 that later merged with CBCC Global Research

Member of Tongue cancer and Lung cancer practice guideline subcommittee for Indian Council of Medical Research.
Member of Head and Neck Committee for National Cancer Grid

His key areas of interest are breast, prostate and gynecological cancers.

He is also, a member of several professional organisations such as ASCO, ESMO, ISMPO, ICON, IMA, AMA, APA, APG

He has been involved in a number of community-based programmes for the prevention and early detection of cancer. Dr Desai also has trained several doctors and health workers at district levels as part of these programmes.

His contribution to the field of clinical research, in particular, has been remarkable. Dr Desai has participated in several institutional and multi centric clinical trials and has also attended several GCP and managerial workshops. His experience in this field includes his stint as a project manager for the Indian division of a large international CRO from 1998-1999 and from 1999 to 2005 he worked as a consultant for oncology trials. At present, he conducts GCP trainings for potential investigators and ethics committee members.

His goal now is to generate the much-needed data on the incidence, treatment and outcome of various cancers in India. He also wishes to create greater awareness among medical practitioners and people about the importance of participating in clinical trials.
